P1 Information Booklet

We warmly welcome you to our school!
Your child will be starting school on Monday 20th August 2018.  Please bring your child to their classroom door for a 08.50 start.  Both P1 entrance doors are located in front of the bike sheds in the main playground. The teachers will be waiting to bring you into the classroom. You may want to take a photograph of your child’s first moments in school!  We ask parents and carers to ensure they only photograph their own children.
Please come back to the P1 doors for 12 noon to collect your child.  The teachers will bring the children out to meet you.

Your child will need:
Blue jumper/ hoodie
White or red polo shirt
Black or grey trousers/ joggers leggings or shorts.
Pinafores, skirts, blouses and shirts can be purchased for photograph days but these are optional. Ties will be available to order at the drop in and are also optional.
Outdoor shoes (please ensure that children can tie their own laces  if wearing laced shoes.)
Schoolbag
Indoor shoes (black gym rubbers with Velcro fastening are ideal)
Gym kit in a bag (shorts, t-shirt, socks if wearing tights)
A snack (we encourage healthy options wherever  possible)
A water bottle (filled with water only please)
Wellies for outdoor play.

The following notes may be of help to you and your child at the beginning of his/her time in Primary School.

P.E Clothing

White T-shirts, black shorts, socks and gym shoes are  required.
Please ensure everything is labelled. It is helpful if these items can be placed in a bag which will be kept in your child’s classroom.

 Active Learning and Messy Play

The children will be outside almost every day, in all weathers. They will also regularly be involved in active, messy play. We ask you to consider this when choosing their uniform as they will need to wear clothes which are comfortable, durable and which allow them to move freely.

Pencils, Crayons, etc

Children  are supplied with crayons and pencils in class. We encourage the children not to bring any  pencil cases from home as this can cause upset among the children. School bags and lunch boxes should be labelled clearly with your child’s name.

School Meals, Packed Lunches, Snack and School Milk

Lunch time will be from 12.00pm until 1.00pm. School dinners are free to all children from P1– P3. Packed lunches are taken in the dinner hall at the same time as school meals are served.

The children are encouraged to drink from their water bottle throughout the day. Please do not send juice to drink in school. Children can be provided with a carton of milk each morning. Milk is ordered and paid for at the beginning of each term. Children are asked to bring 1 small snack to eat at break time.

Toys

We ask that children do not bring toys from home in case they are lost or broken.

School Security

In the morning, the Primary 1 children will line up outside their classroom doors—these are shown to families before the start of P1— and will be met at the door by an adult.  At the end of the day, Primary 1 children leave from these same doors unless they attend the Out of School Club. Children who attend the club are met at the door by Out of School Club staff. Primary 1 children are expected to be collected from school. Please inform the school if there are any changes to your normal arrangements.  Children arriving after the bell should be dropped off at the school office via reception.

The children are supervised in the playground and will stay inside for breaks on wet or very windy days .

 Absence from School

If your child is absent from school, please phone the school office before 9:15am on the first day of absence.

Parental Help at Home

There will be a Parent/Carer Evening in  September where the school staff share important information about how and what children learn in P1. This is a chance for you to spend time in the classroom and with class teachers who share in particular about reading, writing and number.

Primary 1 School Times
